Salida to Gunnison to Buena Vista Back to Salida - Dates TBA

The Salida Two Day Challenge is a loop event.

The first day is short on mileage but long on climbing. We start from Salida with a 5 mile warm up out to Poncha Spgs. The climbing is up and down for a few more miles before it turns serious. The altitude at Salida is 7,200 and we top out on Monarch pass at 11,300. The decent down to Sargent is fast and a bit rough. Once in the valley floor we spin on into Gunnison. There are more miles available for the big boys and girls, up to Crested Butte. (30mi. each way.) The 70 miles in the earlier part of the day will be enough for most.

The second day we will take Gunnison North on Hwy 135 to Almont turn right to Taylor Reservoir road turns to smooth hard packed dirt. After skirting the East side of the reservoir turn onto Cottonwood Pass Rd. climbing to 12 thousand feet. From here roll the 20mi down into Buena Vista. We then roll on to Hwy 285 South to Hwy 291 just North of Salida left into town and the usual fun and frolic for the end of the ride. 82 miles total for the day. Those who wish to can stop in Buena Vista and sag back to their cars.

The minimum donation to Border to Border USA Inc. is $100 per day and is tax deductible.
